Addressing the Zee Ministerial Conclave 2015, attended by several Union Cabinet Ministers, Essel Group Chairman Dr Subhash Chandra said that with commitment and faith, the country can achieve everything.
Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu, Power, Coal and Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar, Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Union Minister of State for Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation Dr Mahesh Sharma, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of State for Urban Development Babul Supriyo and Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha participated in a panel discussion on the subject.
Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha said small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which contribute a large part to the GDP, would play an important role in fruition of the 'Make in India' dream. It's imperative to widen the current tax reform process, by doing away with tax terrorism, he added.
Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways, reiterated his commitment to build 30 kilometres of road per day and said he was looking at developing extensive waterways in the country. He also said local manufacturing of seaplanes and hovercraft would give a huge boost to the government's 'Make in India' initiative and that his target is to build 101 waterways in the country.
When asked to prioritize between ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make in Maharashtra’, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said that the development of a country depends on the development of States and regions. Replying to a question on not passing on the exact benefit of dip in international crude oil prices to Indian customers, Petroleum Minister Pradhan said that it is not always possible to make changes in domestic oil prices vis-a-vis international prices. The government is committed to providing cheap energy to the people, he added.
Stressing on the need to preserve India's rich cultural heritage, Power, Coal and Renewable Energy Minister Goyal said that there is a need to reform the education sector, however, one should not forget the richness of India's culture and language. He added that the people of the country have shown immense trust in Prime Minister Modi, and that Indian politics has not seen such transparency in its history. “We are in such a stage that we are not scared of decision-making,” said the Power Minister.
On being asked about continuous power supply as promised by the government, Goyal said that by the time India goes for general elections in 2019, every Indian will have 24x7 power supply.
