THERE’S NO JUDGE, NO STUDIO... WE HAVE A LIVE ON-GROUND AUDIENCE JUDGING ‘INDIA BANEGA MANCH’: RAJ NAYAK
Colors has launched its new reality show ‘India Banega Manch’, the Indian version of the Israeli show ‘Win The Crowd’. It will be a platform to showcase talent live at India’s iconic locations. Raj Nayak, CEO of Hindi Mass Entertainment, Viacom18, tells us how the show brings a refreshingly different proposition to Indian TV screens.
ON THE SHOW: “Every time we introduce a show, we ask ourselves three questions – what is new for the viewer to see, how is it going to be different and how can we up the benchmark? With this in mind, we introduced ‘India Banega Manch’, a reality show where the stage is India’s colourful streets. What is unique about this show? There’s no judge, there’s no studio and there’s no studio audience. This show has been shot on the streets. All we had were the streets and the crowds became the audience. It is the first time we have a live on-ground audience judging the talent and the performers’ success is determined by the people on ground. It is also hosted by Krushna Abhishek and Mona Singh who share a great chemistry and are so endearing to audiences.”
ON MARKETING THE SHOW: We will have a robust 360-degree campaign that will effectively use all mediums. On the digital front, we have a campaign that will drive viewer conversations and urge people to share videos and pictures of the talent they have witnessed on the streets. This show has tremendous potential to go viral and we anticipate a flood of pictures and videos from people who have been part of the street audience.
ON CHALLENGES: Doing an outdoor shoot is very challenging in India’s summers. During our first shoot in Mumbai, it was so hot that the cameras began melting and so we will have to do the shoot again. From the next season onwards, we will have to ensure that we do not shoot in summer. Also, another concern was how do you place hidden cameras in public places? Despite the many challenges, I am so proud of how the team has delivered.
ON INCREDIBLE INDIA AND TALENT: This is a show with Incredible Indians in Incredible India. The streets and iconic locations of the country are the manch for the show. We have shot in locations like Red Fort, Delhi Haat, Juhu Beach and Princep Ghat. While showcasing the beauty of the country, we are also giving Indian talent a platform. The talent we have seen has been absolutely amazing. In a sense, you could look at this show as a CSR initiative because these talented people are now on a big, national platform. Hopefully, they will become famous and successful and make some money through it.
