Industry leaders voice their opinion about the IMPACT Person of the Year Award as a property
Media, Marketing & Advertising… no one can deny the power and the influence these sectors have in the country. Zeroing down on one person who has made the maximum impact in this sphere through his or her work, ideologies and influence in the year gone by is an introspective exercise that Team IMPACT calls upon the industry to do every year. This time around, IMPACT Person of the year (IPOY) is in its 8th edition, getting more serious in nature as competition toughens and expectations sky-rocket.
As Shashi Sinha, CEO, IPG Mediabrands India, puts it, “I think ‘IMPACT Person of the Year’ is a great idea. Media is a tough industry and there’s a lot of competition. So obviously, it’s good to recognize the industry. It gives more confidence and a sense of renewed purpose.”
Appreciating the work of all those who have contributed to the growth of the industry and giving them a sense of pride is what IPOY has been doing time and again. “IPOY brings to the forefront impactful people in the industry – what they have done - and it is a great way to recap and round up the year. It is a celebration of our industry. I’m sure it is full of controversies and heartaches, but it is one of the most significant award properties. I look forward to IPOY 2012,” says Benoy Roychowdhury, Executive Director of HT Media Ltd.
For several in the industry, past winners of IPOY are truly inspirational. Says CVL Srinivas, CEO Designate of Group M, South Asia, “I think IPOY’s a very prestigious award and very eagerly looked forward to by the fraternity. All the people who’ve won in the past have been truly inspiring.”
IPOY was started in 2005 and its first winner was then CEO of Star India, Peter Mukerjea. Over the years, prominent personalities such as Uday Shankar, CEO, Star India Network; Agnello Dias, Chairman & Co-Founder, Taproot India; Rajdeep Sardesai, Editor-in-Chief, CNN IBN have been among winners of IPOY, making it one of the most esteemed awards in the industry. In the words of Raj Nayak, CEO, Colors, “I think IPOY has only grown from strength to strength. It’s a great platform for the industry to come together and recognize the one person who has contributed most to the growth and development of the industry.”
As Ashish Bhasin, Chairman India & CEO, South East Asia, Aegis Group sums up: “IPOY is the only award of its kind and that’s why media personalities look forward to it and value it.”
Indeed, people are eagerly looking forward to the IPOY award presentation function to be held on December 18.
