Designomics Awards honour designers and business houses for creating unique environments and products
The Designomics Awards – recently hosted at the World Brand Congress in Mumbai – not only appreciate good design, but also empower, celebrate and elevate businesses that adopt the power of design to bring positive and lucrative results.
The categories in which Designomics felicitated designers and business houses were Strategic Brand Identity, Print Publication Design Annual Reports, Brochures and Books, Digital Website User, Interface, Innovation, Packaging, Consumer Appliances, FMCG, Environments – Residential and Commercial, Township Landscaping, Sustainability and Retail Spaces.
Giving an insight on the inception of Designomics, Preeti Vyas, Chairperson, VGC, said, “As a keen observer, I have seen how India has developed its socioeconomic systems by embracing changing technology. One of the important factors for India is to leverage change through intelligent intervention of design. I had got an opportunity to study The Good Design Awards last year. It was a very important factor that inspired me to take an initiative in the design industry in India. The Good Design Awards are the Japanese comprehensive design evaluation and commendation system, operated by the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization. The system has its origins in the ‘Good Design Selection System’ instituted by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Japan in 1957. The award system was established based on the belief that good design is essential and indispensable to citizens’ everyday lives. Today, with the inception of Designomics, we aim to create an awareness movement in the design industry through various forums, events and awards. The most important effort is to create intervention in every socio-economic category.”
When asked for a key message that she wants to convey to Indian designers, Vyas said, “Every design is a collaborative strategic process, not a crafted process. For this, a designer has to partner with the client at every stage of planning to get the right idea of design. Secondly, every designer should create intelligent design options keeping the needs of the client clearly in mind. Once this is done, the ROI FEEDBACK priyanka@exchange4media.com December 25 > 2011 [ impactonnet.com ] of design is set perfectly, thereby making you a true design custodian.”
