Any creative person worth their salt will tell you that working at an agency is an experience of a lifetime. Despite the crazy hours, manic deadlines, cranky clients, and the usual fair share of office shenanigans, agency life is terrific! For an industry that’s built around change, agencies (and their people) are the epitome of adaptability. A training ground for life skills. Fluid briefs, changing layouts, and dynamic relationships are all part of the game with flexibility as the cheat code.
Beating the rush hour
Life is always on full-speed when you’re at an agency. I can recount innumerable days when I’ve had to tackle monstrous deadlines set by the all-important client, burn the midnight oil on a sales pitch, shuttle through five meetings on a Monday, and skip lunch on a regular basis. As someone once wisely said, if you can’t stand the fast lane, get off the motorway.
What goes around comes around
It’s a small world and a smaller industry. So, honing your skills at an agency is the best way to get noticed/ get in the thick of things. Work on a good campaign and you could bring in more business. Work on a great campaign and you’ll be enhancing your own brand value. Become a part of a big client’s marketing strategy and it’ll teach you more than you ever imagined.
Bigger and better
When you’re part of a bigger vision, you’re naturally more motivated to do the best you possibly can. Building relationships is sometimes second nature to those working in the creative field. I guess it comes with the territory of dealing with sensitive clients and hypersensitive creative folks. The plus side – great relationships at work too – some of the best friends you make will be at the agency. Like-minded creative folks who’ll keep the fun going at work.
Agents
Sometimes I think that most employees at an agency would like to be called ‘agents’, since we clearly live a 007 life! We’re incredibly charming, witty, and are known to keep calm in high pressure situations. Plus, it helps that we know how to get things done. Always.
They say inspiration exists, but it has to find you working. Being in an agency, you’re pretty much always on the job, so inspiration has all the doors and windows open to waltz in. So, if you feel inspired by reading this, you should start your life at an agency right now!
