It is often easier to achieve success individually, but it is sweeter when it comes along with the backing and support of other people. It is important that you win people’s trust, take them along in your journey and share ideas and experiences. This is what makes one a people’s person!
Being a people’s person is an art and must be learnt and built over time. It requires practice, transformation, evolving and listening. But these are not the only things - one must also follow certain guidelines. I took some of these lessons early in my career and follow them till date. So here are some tips you can use if you are struggling to find your way with people:
TREAT THE AUDIENCE AS YOUR FAMILY: Do you ever feel uncomfortable when talking to your family? No, right? That’s why you ought to treat the audience as your family. Imagine it is your family that is sitting and listening to you. You wouldn’t hesitate to speak a single word.
DON’T PROCRASTINATE: We often keep putting off things that we are scared or unsure of. Many people end up practising the exact same routine every day until they retire. It is because they become used to their comfort zone. It is only when we challenge our fear that we can grow, become self-reliant and master the art of becoming a people’s person.
QUESTION YOURSELF: That’s the first step to victory. I believe any pursuit starts with questioning yourself and questioning your reality! Find out what it is that you would like to achieve, have the result in mind, ask yourself how would you realize it and then start working backwards on it. I had once asked myself if I wanted to become a public speaker and the first obvious answer in my head was a big NO. My profession requires me to be a speaker, a guide, a motivator and a leader for my students and I had to question myself about what was stopping me. Eventually, with a lot of conscious effort and repeatedly questioning my fears, I changed my reality.
ADAPT A PURPOSEFUL PRACTICE: Any mastery comes with practice. I wouldn’t recommend constant practice with no definite planning. A firm practice is an answer to excellence. Each time I practised, I had a goal of connecting to each one present in the audience. I was able to create an ambience of a family gathering with a high engagement rate. My first public appearance had over 1,500 students with eminent personalities from the fashion fraternity. With purposeful practice, I was able to connect and touch each heart. It left an impact among the audience, an impact I never imagined I could create. I derived immense satisfaction out of audience responses. It gave me the fulfillment of my purpose - a purpose to spread knowledge, to educate the youth for the better, and a purpose to give them the righteous platform they deserve.
GIVE YOUR MIND THE TREAT TO SUCCESS: I firmly believe the fact that when we inculcate good thoughts, the universe responds to it. You must trick your mind to attract success. And that happens only when you are optimistic. So, think better to get better. Your mind is the most precious gift you have received from the universe. Make the right use of it, with a purposeful practice.
