PLAYING TO WIN

Sports provides the foundation for discipline and acts as a self-starter while overcoming adversity. Playing a sport keeps you fit. However, it also helps develop personality traits and skills that often mirror what makes one successful at work. These employees bring dedication, team building, and time management skills to the table.

WHERE ATHLETES EXCEL
A company will have a mix of all types of employees. There will be athletes who practice individual sports like running, swimming, yoga, and there are those who participate in team-based sports like football and cricket among others. Employees accustomed to teamwork are better at influencing others, performing sales roles and even taking feedback.

The one thing I have observed in such employees is the skill to sacrifice a part of your individuality to focus on what’s better for the team. Employees who play team sports do great in high-stress situations that sometimes become a part of the corporate world.

At Play Games24x7, we have multiple sports where we organize tournaments and games, and our employees can have friendly matches. It is a great stress buster and brings the entire company together. We have employees who had stopped playing long back but now are back on the field with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm.

GETTING THE BEST OUT OF EMPLOYEES STRONG COMMUNICATION:
This is a hallmark of all athletes, as they learn to receive feedback and apply it constructively to themselves. They even master the skill of giving constructive feedback to others, and that’s very important in a corporate set up.

LISTENING TO YOUR SUPERVISORS:
If you come to think of it, coaches serve the same function as supervisors. They provide structure and instruction. Employees who play sports, adapt this skill naturally and that helps them grow into new roles in the organization.

TIME MANAGEMENT:
Of the multiple things that we all need to learn in our lives, managing time is perhaps the most challenging. Balancing all the different commitments that are on our plate is never an easy task. However, what sports teaches you is to juggle the things that are all demanding your time.

TEAMWORK:
There are many sports that we think are individual. But in reality, almost all sports have group work involved, working towards a common goal. When playing any sport, a person learns how to follow their leader to progress forward, and they also learn to take control and assert themselves when required.

GOAL SETTING:
Participating in sports is fun, absolutely! But the players are also focused on achieving goals. We are a gaming company, and we know the importance of putting challenges and fun in the same basket. Yes, this can be testing, but when done in a fun and sporting way, it becomes motivating.

COMPETITIVENESS:
Let’s face it – sports are fun because there is healthy competition. To be honest, we compete in every aspect of life, including our work. And in today’s world, competition is fierce. There will be ups and downs.

RESILIENCY:
When the going gets tough, the tough get going. It is easy to get discouraged and give up when things get tough. As rightly said by Bobby Knight, “The key is not the will to win. Everybody has that. It is the will to prepare to win that is important.”
I believe in inculcating sports in our corporate culture. I play alongside my team and encourage each of my employees to practice one or the other form of sports, helping build a strong, happy and positive Play Games24x7 family.
